“This is the right product, with the right features. People love Ove’s design.”

- Vern Cunningham, President

See Through: Alutron Modules is typical of innovative Canadian manufacturers who compete in world markets. Their competitive strategy includes achieving an understanding of consumers’ latent needs and carefully planning products that meet or exceed market expectations. Ove’s user-centred research helped them discover what consumers really want. Together with Alutron’s Marketing team we observed users in action, noted their frustrations and identified opportunities to make their work more enjoyable.

Break Through: The VacuVision handle needed to be as functional as it was beautiful. Hand-feel is critical to any tool, and users were quite clear they needed both comfort and maneuverability, as well as clear access to the VacuVision's LCD display and fingertip controls. We modeled many different design iterations using a variety of manual and digital techniques. We tested each one and improved continuously until the handle worked effortlessly, looked great and felt right to a broad range of users.

Follow Through: Manufacturers often look overseas for low-cost part production and assembly. Getting the most out of distant suppliers requires precise communication of part geometry, material specifications and assembly instructions. We provided Alutron with complete and detailed 3D part and assembly data in a variety of CAD formats. Ove’s part files leave our studio ready for proto-typing, part verification and tooling fabrication.
