See Through: Advanced technology products, presented in their raw form, can appear so complex that they overwhelm their audiences, appearing distant and unapproachable. Making these products market-ready typically involves housing them in a skin that reflects their sophistication, enhances appreciation of their functionality and allows users to admire them. Hydrogenics’ fuel cell products serve many different market applications, and they needed a vibrant and uniform visual theme that offered family resemblance while addressing each market’s particular functional expectations.
Break Through: Each of these fuel cell products is rigorously engineered and densely packed to fill all available space with necessary technology, leaving only a thin outer surface available for applied forms. This fact combined with initial low-volume production made hybrid enclosures the most rational solution. Perforated sheet metal skins painted to match cast urethane fascia gave us the opportunity to apply a uniformly rich and elegant visual language across very different forms. Tight Engineering constraints were balanced against aggressive Marketing objectives in a viable and successful final design.
Follow Through: We fully appreciate the effort companies expend to bring new products to market. We understand how complex commercialization strategies benefit from design on many levels. This collapsible display stand was created to present Hydrogenics’ fuel cell products at international trade shows. All projects require careful management of available resources at all times. We keep cost targets, timelines, supplier sourcing and deliverables in mind throughout the project. Managing client resources effectively is part of Ove's contribution to the commercialization effort.
