See Through: Automotive service centres need to present a consistently professional face to patrons while attracting and retaining skilled Technicians whose work practices are highly personal and varied. Efficiency and throughput are key factors affecting profitability. Ove's user-centred research into Nelson’s NEOS tool storage system determined that a 10% boost in efficiency would yield a comparable increase in automotive service centre revenues, and Technicians’ insights helped us understand how this might be achieved.
Break Through: Our observations of actual work processes led to a systematic concept of variable work modules, each meeting specific needs. Modularity offered the greatest flexibility, allowing adaptation to existing environments and minimizing the need for custom-built components. Nelson’s NEOS product respects the Technician’s personal work preferences while presenting a consistently professional corporate image. The resulting environment impresses patrons, satisfies owners and is a great place to work.
Follow Through: Nelson’s in-house Engineering, Marketing and Management teams can run with a good idea and make it a success in the marketplace. Close collaboration with Ove’s designers ensured the original intent of the design came through in the final product. Adherence to research findings resulted in a new product line that offered significant market innovations in the areas of employee satisfaction, efficiency and throughput, as well as dealership and manufacturer brand enhancement.
